the fine art View camera portrait 

        The view camera portrait is a very unique and classic portrait session. The view camera is a large format camera incorporating the use  4"x5" negatives. The camera, lighting and photo techniques are similar to those used in some of  the high fashion photo sessions coast to coast. A classic approach will provide a timeless fine art portrait similar to those created by the masters of the past. Instructor, lecturer and award-winning photographer  Dennis has spent many years perfecting the craft of the view camera portrait.

 Once the 4 x 5 inch negative is produced it is sent to the darkroom for printing.  Every View Camera Portrait is hand printed  by Dennis in his darkroom. Dennis will print a 4 x 5" contact print of the negative onto 8 x 10" black and white fiber paper. Selection of the proper contrast and the right amout of dodging and burning is critical for the photographic print to take shape. The print is hand processed   in Dektol developer and double fixed and selenium toned for print permanance. The fine art Black &White print will last litterally hundreds of years before fading or changing color or tone.

This is the same process that Dennis incorporates when printing his fine art limited edition B&W landscape photographs. It is interesting when you think that your grandchildren's, grandchildren will be viewing and enjoying your portrait many many years from now.

A successful portrait will reveal the personality of an  individual when you look into the eyes. The rapport between photographer and subject is a key element while creating a portrait. Dennis' personal approach will allow you to feel  relaxed and enjoy your portrait experience.

Since the creation of the view camera, technology has not been able to match it's clarity, longevity or elegence.
